Hi! I’m Laura, and a very warm welcome to Laura Anne’s Bakehouse!
I’m the sole baker, social media manager, website builder, head of marketing, and the human behind the Bakehouse!
Thank you so much for joining me on this journey and for supporting my business and passion; I hope you enjoy my breads as much as I enjoy creating them.
Our story
Laura’s journey in baking can be directly linked her family, her passion for food, and her love of travelling.
With being of eastern European and Irish heritage, food and cooking had always been at the centre of Laura’s childhood home. Strong memories that she has are of Ukrainian Easter lunches at her great-grandparents home, with her favourite part of the meal being the fresh paska bread (egg bread).
Fond memories that Laura has are of cooking and baking with her Lithuanian grandparents on countless occasions - from making hearty barley soup, potato pancakes, her Grammy’s beloved apple cake, crepes, and many Lithuanian dishes. (Laura’s grandfather was a chef, so she believes that the passion for food runs to her core and was going to be an inevitable and integral part of her life.)
Laura was very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel extensively in her teens and 20’s throughout Europe, North America and Australia, which allowed her to try new ingredients, local dishes, and gain more appreciation for food and culture. It was especially during her years living in England where her passion of cooking and food really sparked. She learned about fresh, local ingredients, foraging, and gained a strong interest in homesteading.
Fast forward to November 2020, Laura had the pleasure of baking my first ever loaf of sourdough bread and batch of bagels with her sister-in-law. She was (dough) hooked, and became enthralled by the ancient art of bread making. Throughout 2021 Laura baked loaves and bagels for herself and her family, gaining confidence in her newly-learned skill. She did extensive research and learned about whole grains, different flour types, diversity in bread, and how important slowly fermented bread (sourdough) and food are to our microbiome, which directly affects our physical and mental health. Laura also became more conscious of how our food is grown, where it comes from, and how important it is to support local farmers, growers, and suppliers.
In February of 2022 Laura was deeply saddened by the devastation in Ukraine and the damaging effect that it had on the animals. Wanting to help in any way she could, Laura began raising money for animal rescues and shelters in Ukraine by selling artisan loaves and bagels. She was absolutely overcome by the support she received and managed to raise almost $2000 for the rescues. Laura received encouragement to continue baking, and thus, Laura Anne’s Bakehouse was born! Laura turned a hobby into what is now her passion and livelihood, and she is so glad that she did.
Throughout the year, we’ll be featuring an animal rescue organisation, shelter, or individual along with animals in need of a home or a foster home here on the website as well as on our social media pages, with 5% of every New York-style bagel order going towards these wonderful causes.
A donation link to each organisation will be included so if you are able to add a separate donation, that would be so welcome and appreciated! (An order from Laura Anne’s Bakehouse is not necessary for sending a separate donation.)
Laura is very proud to say that all of the breads and bagels from Laura Anne’s Bakehouse are intentionally made by hand and are baked fresh-to-order, always. Laura’s ability to create and bake in small batches allows her to maintain the precision and keen attention to detail in all of the products that are made here. Laura hopes that by supporting a local business who uses local ingredients, this will raise awareness and spark a passion in others!
In 2021, Laura grew a small kitchen garden containing a variety of herbs, flowers and tomatoes, which she used in her focaccia, receiving high praise from customers. After a few of seasons of successful growing, in May 2025, Laura and her partner, Jesse, are looking forward to expanding their growing space to allow for more herbs, new edible flowers, and a pollinator garden. We cannot wait to share the transformation of the front garden; it will definitely create a buzz in the neighbourhood (and from the bees).
A lot of new ideas, recipes, and exciting ventures are coming to the Bakehouse, the best way to stay up-to-date is to follow us on social media.
